Plastic bags are by far one of the most used items in day-to-day life. Whether you go grocery shopping, to Best Buy, or even Walmart, plastic bags are ever-present. This poses a problem because plastic bags are bad for the environment, as they are non-biodegradable, spoil bodies of water, and can even poison the very food we pack them in!

I believe that there should be laws in New Jersey that discourage consumers from using plastic bags. Some viable solutions could be enforcing the use of recyclable bags, or providing discounts for customers who avoid the use of plastic bags!

Such laws are already in place, as New York recently banned plastic bags. Furthermore, in Bradley Beach, New Jersey, there is a five-cent fee for the use of plastic bags. Another example could be Whole Foods, which offers small discounts if customers bring in their bags!

Please help this petition grow by spreading the word! Even though you may not know it, many people would be willing to support such a cause. For example, in a survey that I conducted in my former middle-school, students that had found out that plastic bags damage the environment were more likely to support such a cause. 48.2% of the respondents would like to support this cause because of the harmful effects of plastic bags.

In conclusion, banning the use of plastic bags can greatly help the environment and us as human beings. Please share this with friends & family if you support this petition and sign the petition if you feel this should become a reality, sign the petition!
