my husband and and my childrens father was killed in an head on collision with a HGV lorry on the A134 in suffolk. He died at the scene.
a man was arrested and charged with his death by careless driving,
There isn’t enough evidence to charge the man with dangerous driving.
Myself and my family are raising awareness of the dangers and impact of HGV drivers.
The law needs to change, there needs to be a law enforced to make dash cams in hgv’s mandatory, so evidence in similar circumstances can help to convict people who drive HGV lorries if they don’t take a break, drive to close, or speed, or who are texting on their phone.
The law will also prevent charges being brought to the HGV driver if they are not at fault.
In this case the HGV driver was found at fault of driving to close to the vehicle in front and he didn’t brake in time when the traffic was coming to a standstill, in which he was only sentenced to 8 months in prison, on release he will go back home to Bulgaria where he can carry on with his life with his family, and this isn’t good enough, life for a life should be the sentence, to say the man was a professional truck driver of over 25 years, my husband will never come home.
We really do need these laws to change, so people are safe on roads every day.
thankyou so much for signing and sharing this petition, it really means a lot to myself and my family.
