As a former Grade 10 student I have witnessed the lack of education on Black History. The Ontario Grade 10 curriculum focuses on History since World War 1. However, there is hardly any mention of Black Canadians during this time. Stories such as the Black battalion or the sleeping car porter go untold.

Black history should never be viewed as something that is optional. It is crucial that Grade 10 Ontario students know the achievements of Black Canadians as well and struggles they had to endure at the hands of the government. Black history is Canadian history.

This petition is demanding for the Ontario ministry of education to update the current curriculum to include Black history in the Grade 10 curriculum to ensure it is taught in every school in Ontario.
