Child care workers are understaffed, facing burnout, and struggling with the pandemic, while going into work everyday, wearing PPE, and aren’t getting paid what they deserve. Child care workers are needed and essential but are being paid almost as much as the fast food industry and that needs to change. PAY CHILD CARE WORKERS FAIRLY! Child care workers handle a lot, such as: cleaning, cooking/preparing snacks, planning activities, marking work, assisting children with bathroom needs, and nap times, while still following a strict curriculum, that requires outdoor time, snack time, sleeping, play, and including things like: literacy, math, socio-dramatic play, etc. They must do all of this while still being able to keep an eye on 20+ children at times. On top of the responsibility to make sure everyone is safe, and taken care of they must also do so while being understaffed and facing stressors from outside factors as well. These workers do so much and only get paid $2-4 dollars more than individuals making minimum wage. They deserve so much more, this will help to prevent burnout, and improve mental health of the staff altogether. By signing this petition we can make a change to make sure the staff gets days off needed, a wage they can survive off of, and make the overall quality of care so much better for your kids.
