Canada must grant asylum to Afghan minorities before they perish
This petition had 271 supporters
Thousands of members of Afghanistan's ethnic and religious minorities are under increasing threat from militant extremists. Approximately 2500 Afghan Sikh and Hindu minorities are refugees in their own country. They are victims of decades violence, human rights abuses, systematic persecution, and oppression of their religious freedoms. War widows and their children have little access to education, jobs, or futures. With no adequate protection from the Afghan or international governments, these unrecognized refugees have no safe place to go inside or outside their country.
We want the Government of Canada to let us privately sponsor these unrecognized refugees so that they can build new safe lives in Canada, with the financial and social support of generous people in our community.
We ask that the Government of Canada commit to granting refugee status to up to 2500 Afghan Sikh and Hindu victims without formally requiring them to risk their lives leaving the country to complete one checkbox on a form.
