Attawapiskat Chief, Theresa Spence, is on day 6 of a hunger strike that she has stated will not end until Harper and Governor General David Johnston agree to meet with First Nation's leaders to discuss treaty reform. This is literally a matter of life or death. The continued suffering of many Aboriginal communities in this country is a national shame. Enough is enough. Call on your leaders to actually show some leadership!

Letter to
Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper, PM
The Governor General's Office of Canada His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston
As an elected leader of this country, we call on you take a position of leadership on an issue that has gone on for far too long. The overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in Canada in all areas of social suffering is an issue of discrace for our country. As individuals and as a collective we must take immediate action to begin making positive changes within our society that will alleviate this suffering.

Theresa Spence is the ultimate example of an individual acting selflessly and effectively to create positive change in our society. To let her die because you, our leader, cannot be bothered to meaningfully address this issue would be an enormous and lasting mark of shame for our government and our country.

We elect leaders because we expect them to represent our wishes and our values. Mr. Harper and Mr. Johnston, show some leadership. Do not let this issue lead to the needless death of another Aboriginal women by the Canadian government's inaction.
