The students of SFA deserve answers and accountability from the administration in regards to the continuing budget crisis and its primary impact on academics. Following a careful reading of the most recent budget by many faculty and students alike, many questions are left unanswered as to budget allocation, revenue figures, and prioritization of cuts. The following are examples of the most common issues being faced by students.

1. Not being able to maintain physical class equipment or virtual resources necessary for quality teaching and learning in the classrooms and labs.

2. Not being able to offer courses that are part of my degree plan pertinent for graduating.

3. Not enough clarity on the lack of prioritization for students and academics.

4. Combining smaller class sections into bigger class sizes. This does not align with the advertisement of said classes and necessary social distancing during the COVID pandemic to make campus feel safe.

5. Not providing funding for graduate and undergraduate students’ conference attendance.

6. A lack of campus living standards, including dorm hall quality and maintenance, cafeteria availability, and cafeteria location quality and maintenance.

7. A clear preference among the administration to prioritize athletics over students and academic departments.

We request an explanation from the SFA administration as to why these changes were made as opposed to cuts in non-academic areas. We also would like to speak with the administration in a public forum so that we can get answers to more technical concerns we have with the budget.
