Southern Housing has submitted plans to demolish Ada Lewis House, Palliser Road, London W14, a handsome early 20th century building and build an oversized, modern design development.

Ada Lewis House is currently home to over 60 young people - many of them key workers at nearby Charing Cross Hospital. If it is demolished they will have to find somewhere else to live. It is a very serviceable building, currently serving a useful purpose. It’s madness to demolish it.

The new proposed development is too big and too close to the road. It will entail the chopping down of mature trees, and loss of light and privacy to the surrounding houses.

The new development would destroy the character of the Barons Court Conservation Area, making it noisier (no trees, more concrete) and uglier.

LBHF planning committee gave this development planning permission despite well over 100 objections, waving aside concerns over height, felling of trees, damage to the conservation area, and much more.

The development would be harmful to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area which the Council has a duty to preserve and enhance in accordance with Section 72 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
