Dear Mr Byron and Mr Snow

End preferential relationship with NewsCorp and SKY

We are concerned that when attending Canberra airport, travellers are preferentially presented with Newscorp and SKY media. Most obvious is the provision of free copies of 'The Australian' to travellers. This media is well known for its biased and conservative reporting that undermines action on climate change. We note that recently it has failed to present fair and accurate reporting on climate change and the bushfire emergency. It also presents issues that are important to a harmonious Australian society, such as multiculturalism and racial and religious respect, in a way that is damaging and divisive.

We understand that these arrangements are due to a relationship between QANTAS and the media providers. However, in the least, we suggest that as a good corporate citizen of Canberra and Australia, you could make copies of alternative media available to customers. You could, for example, provide free copies of The Canberra Times, your local newspaper publication, or other alternatives.

We note that you have made commitments to improving sustainability, and are also committed to supporting the community in your local city, yet the preferential presentation of Newscorp and SKY media at your airport undermines this commitment.

We ask that you take action. Please note that a similar petition asks QANTAS to end its arrangement with SKY and NewsCorp.
