Installation of a flashing cross walk on Colonial at Henn in Navan

Crossing Colonial at Henn in the town of Navan Ontario is dangerous for pedestrians, particularly during peak traffic hours. Colonial is of particular concern as it is the only route for elementary students commuting to and from Heritage Public School. It is also the main thoroughfare for farm tractors, construction vehicles, school buses and City buses. There is no side walk for children walking to Heritage from Henn on the north side of Colonial. With escalating traffic volumes it is imperative that a safe and effective pedestrian crossing system be employed, such as a flashing cross walk with painted road markings. Stephen Blais along with his colleagues, have refused to install a flashing cross walk, a crossing guard, speed bump or stop sign, stating that it is not the type of road where any of these safety methods can be employed. The residents of Navan, particularly the children, should be able to cross Colonial to get to school, the park and the skating rink safely.
