Ever since the Dolphins first significantly changed their uniforms in 1997, they simply have not been the same team. While some teams needed updating like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Miami Dolphins are a historic franchise whose logo should never have been touched.
The Miami Dolphins have had five different logos since their franchise’s inception. Describing the animal during the 1965 team name reveal, club founder Joe Robbie said, “Dolphins can attack and kill a shark or a whale. Sailors say bad luck will come to anyone who harms one of them.” Over the years, each logo has included a dolphin with an orange sunburst in the background; however, both features have changed significantly. As has their self image on the field.
NFL teams are allowed to wear alternates or throwbacks only twice a year. The Dolphins have some of the best old-school sets in all of football, and it’s time for each franchise to make them their permanent look. Even
Fox Sports agrees the Dolphins have the best throwback uniforms of all time.
And as for team winning record, a different Miami Dolphins team takes the field every time throwback uniforms are worn. You know it to be true.
We therefore respectfully ask you Mr. Ross, Coach Gase, and the NFL, to consider bringing back one of the greatest traditions not only of the Miami Dolphins but of all of South Florida and reinstate the throwback uniforms as the permanent uniforms of the Miami Dolphins.
