Save Woodstreet Library and Building.

Walthamforest Council recently called a cabinet meeting and decided that Wood Street Library was to be moved to the old Co-Op shop at the Marlowe Road Country Side development. This locally listed building, dating back to 1930’s - 1950’s’ has been earmarked to be sold and potentially demolished.

Luckily after emailing many Counsillor’s we have managed to get the decision called in for scrutiny under the following terms:

This report had no pre-decision scrutiny and has a high degree of public interest.
The Councillors are concerned about the following:
That no consideration was given to an option which linked Wood Street Library to the School next door.
That the refurbishment costs seem unreasonably high and that alternatives should have been sought.
That the report made no note of Wood Street Library’s locally listed status.
That any surplus funds from any library disposal in this scheme would not be earmarked for capital works in the Library Service.

This currently stops the clocks and any go ahead. However we now need your support. Save our library and the building it occupies. Please sign the petition.

Update:

The call in meeting will take place on the 7th of August.
