STC River Project

STC River Project
The City of St. Charles is deciding how the riverfront area surrounding the old police station will be developed. The proposal shown in the picture will overpower, obstruct and privatize our riverfront. The most significant problems with this proposal include:
- THE PROPOSAL INVOLVES $20 MILLION IN CITY FUNDS & FREE LAND GIVE AWAY for the DEVELOPER!
-HEAVY TRAFFIC WILL OVERWHELM THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS AND MAIN STREET!
The proposal contains a massive hotel, apartments, four restaurants, and retail spaces. No traffic study has been conducted to understand the safety and danger impact of additional traffic.
-THE PROPOSED BUILDING IS OVER 85 FEET TALL!
This violates city code which prohibits construction of a building over 50 feet tall.
-THE PROPOSAL DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY GREEN SPACE! This is contrary to the 2020 updated comprehensive plan which calls for significant green spaces to be part of any riverfront development.
THIS DEVELOPMENT IS TOO BIG FOR OUR RIVERFRONT.
