States of Alderney to ban single-use plastics
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
We ask the States of Alderney to create legislation, in line with that proposed by the EU and UK, banning the sale of some of the most common and readily replaceable single-use plastic items.
This would include plastic straws, cutlery, plates, drink stirrers, cotton bud sticks and plastic carrier bags (including those made from bio-plastics and ‘degradable’ plastics).
While Alderney has achieved a lot as a community in regards to reducing our plastic waste, we believe such legislation is needed to reduce the amount of non-recyclable, ecologically damaging waste produced by our island - the objective being to improve the quality of Alderney’s environment and protect its marine life.
This is a small step in the fight against unnecessary plastic but sends a clear message - that the people of Alderney love and care for our environment.
