On 29 June, 2016, my brother Raunak Banerjee took his own life because he couldn't stand the bullying and torture he was being subjected to.
Raunak was a soft-hearted, good-natured 14 year kid. He jumped off the 10th floor of his apartment after leaving a suicide note in his school bag. In the note, he said that he 'couldn't take it anymore and was terribly bullied by a group of boys in school'.
While the police is investigating and the school authorities are cooperating, there is no system in place to ensure this won't happen again. There have been multiple cases of student suicides because of bullying.
We need a lot more awareness. We need a massive anti-bullying drive run by the Government that hits all the schools and colleges in the state. We need school authorities and potential bullies to sit up and take notice that bullying is a serious problem and it needs to stop.
Please sign and share this petition asking the Karnataka Education minister to launch a state-wide anti-bullying drive.
I lost a brother because the system doesn't care to protect school children from mental, emotional and physical torture. But no more kids should be lost to this social evil.
