Lower the license fee on single axle trailers in Illinois
Lower the license fee on single axle trailers in Illinois

The recent increase in license fees for single axle trailers was just increased by 555% from $18 to $118. The cost of license plates over 3 years will be more than the cost of the trailer. While an increase in fees may be necessary to offset infrastructure repairs, putting the burden on one class of trailers is unfair and unacceptable. License fees in neighboring states of Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa are all $50 or less per year. It's time our lawmakers revisit their decision to increase fees and come up with a more reasonable and fair fee schedule than just adding $100 to the previous fee. If they don't, people will just rent trailers instead of owning them or register their vehicles out of state and Illinois will lose more than they gain. Join me in petitioning our representatives to wake up and do their job and actually implement fees that reflect the actual impact of the vehicles being taxed and how they are charged.
