Mohamed Al-Amoodi started this petition to Medical Schools and

Dear State Medical Licencing Boards, and Medical Schools:

Fourth year medical students across the United States would like to get the option for an early graduation to aid the short staffed hospitals and other programs in the fight against the Covid-19 crisis. As doctors and healthcare workers are being infected and over worked we will continue see an even greater exponential increase in morbidities and mortalities.

This proposal will be beneficial to the community, licencing boards and to medical students for the following reasons:

1- We believe that clinical exposure to this health crisis will be more beneficial for our academic education during the remaining few months of remote training left.

2- Secondly, we believe that by participating in this, we will better develop the foundational core competencies, including but not limited to social services which will make us better physicians.

3- By looking at the trajectories of places most severely hit by the crisis, it is clear that proactive and powerful preparedness will help save lives and the economy in the long run.

So again we kindly request you take this request into serious consideration.

Sincerely,

Mohamed Al-Amoodi

4th Year Medical Student

FAQ:

Q) we have limited supply of ppe, we can't share them with more ill prepared students

A) I propose we get tasked in the care of non-covid patients who were cleared and have low risks for having covid-19, in order to reserve ppe for staff with better experience in treating covid-19

Q) it is not ethical to put medical students at risk

A) these are risks students voluntarily accept, secondly, by helping with non-covid patients we reduce such risk, last but not the least, we will become residents in a few months so we can't draw an arbitrary line to protect medical students and then be thrown right into it shortly afterwards

Q) we already have enough staff, we don't need students getting in the way

A) that is not what expert epidemiologists and models are predicting, furthermore, we are thought public health which is one of the core tenants of preventative medicine and it is all about taking precautionary steps to reduce damage and costs in the longrun

Q) how can they be helpful, they're fresh medical students

A) we are very adaptible, intelligent and highly motivated to learn and we have 4 years of clinical and preclinical fund of knowledge that will add immense value to the hospital teams, furthermore, as budding doctors we need to feel empowered and confident in our abilities to contribute
