Ben Hoogland started this petition to State Licensing Boards

This petition will make sure mental health clients can have continuity of care when they are travelling, temporarily relocated or for a couple, one partner is in another state. This issue affects any mental health clients who leave their state for any period of time, but would benefit from continuing mental health sessions with their therapist/counselor/psychologist and we need change now! Please sign and share with others!

At times, a therapy/counseling client, or a partner of a couple client, may be living, stationed or traveling to a different state.

Currently, only some states allow mental health professionals licensed in a different state to conduct therapy virtually when their client, or part of their client, is located in another state. Examples include a client or partner traveling for business, stationed in the military or living and in a long-distance relationship.

Continuity of care is essential to adequately supporting a client with the therapeutic relationship primary to success outcomes of therapy/counseling.

Being able to provide therapy/counseling in a limited fashion, either for a short period of time, or for a particular couple client having to live separately, would allow for the best possible outcomes for a client's mental health, relationship or other reason they are pursuing therapy/counseling.

This is a call to state licensing boards to create or adopt a rule/policy/law that will allow for therapists, counselors or psychologists licensed in a different state to appropriately provide virtual/tele-mental health therapy/counseling with a client, or partner of a couple client, within their state for a period of time or limited number of sessions.
