Today many parents are worried about the next term of their children's school. Unfortunately, many are suffering from economic distress during the COVID pandemic. This is higher in places like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad where there is higher dependence on self-employment. Even among salaried, many have been constrained due to lower salaries.

In this scenario, private schools are forcing parents to pay immediate fees. Many have demanded fees to be paid within a shorter time-frame. Some schools have made their teachers to canvas for fees. Amid all these, they are insisting on online classes even for primary sections.

It is high time the state governments intervened in this. If a moratorium can be sought for loans, why not an intervention in school education and advise the schools to postpone the collection of fees? Let all schools report the fees they are collecting and let parents endorse this. Call for a uniform 25% to 30% reduction in fees.
