Ban the release of balloons within all Victorian councils

The recent proliferation in single use plastics that are littering our parks, waterways and communities has urged us to take immediate action against this rise in litter. Single use plastics and rubber derivatives, such as various types of balloons, have disastrously long decomposition times and pose immediate threats to our wildlife and the delicate chemical balance of water ways.
Here in Victoria, members of the community are known to occasionally release balloons as a method of celebration. However, little effort is made subsequently to collect and dispose of the deflated balloons, eventuating to an increase in plastic litter in both the immediate Victorian environment and more remote locations.
We are advocating for a ban on the release of balloons, and we are encouraging the Victorian Government to instead promote environmentally friendly alternatives for celebratory and commemorative purposes. It is our duty to ensure the protection and preservation of our natural world for years to come, and we believe that a ban on balloon releases is an effective step towards a less wasteful future.
