Cancellation of the Junior Cert

Cancellation of the Junior Cert

Current students of third year have missed a large portion of the 2nd year syllabus and a portion of the 1st year syllabus due to the Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions. The Junior Cycle exam and mocks are no where near as important as Leaving Cert examinations. There is no need for students who have missed so much of the junior cert syllabus to worry about the Junior Cert and mocks, next February for the mocks and next June for the Junior Cert.
The mental and physical wellbeing of a student matter. Lack of school time has caused mental issues and more pressure and stress over students to get their work done with in a limited time frame. Why should students of third year stress themselves out about state exams. The in and outs of school has severely affected the concentration and study levels of many.
The Education department, Norma Foley and the State Examinations Commission need to hear the 3rd years. The wellbeing of a student should not be damaged by an exam. Some 3rd years haven't had proper summer exams, they can't just jump straight to mocks and state exams.
