Banning Conversion Therapy in State College, PA

Currently, Centre County has no bans on conversion therapy at the county level or in any of its municipalities. Conversion “therapy” is defined as “psychological treatment or spiritual counseling designed to change a person's sexual orientation from homosexual or bisexual to heterosexual”.
Even though the practice is considered pseudo science and unethical with many organizations coming out against the practice of conversion therapy such as the American Counseling Association and American Psychiatric Association, it remains legal in all municipalities within Centre County. Conscious of the work that has been done throughout the Commonwealth to ban the practice of conversion therapy, Front & Centre is dedicated to working on banning this unscientific practice. Therefore, we are currently working on banning conversion therapy from being performed by licensed therapists on minors under the age of 18 within the Borough of State College, PA.
Within the Commonwealth the City of Pittsburgh has banned conversion therapy to be practiced by licensed therapists for individuals the ages 18 and under and the City Council of Philadelphia is considering a similar ban.
