We the People, insist you oppose any proposed Gun Control Bill, which bans the sale, purchase or possession of any firearm which is currently legal. Such a bill, if passed would violate the lawful right to keep and bear arms as set forth in the Second Amendment of The United States Constitution. We believe firearms bans of any sort to be ineffective and in no way prevents or diminishes the likelihood of violent acts committed by criminals. Several studies show that the 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban” showed no reliably measurable effect for decreasing gun violence. A firearms ban penalizes law abiding citizens, and does nothing to prevent crime. On the contrary, banning firearms removes a citizen’s ability to protect them and their families.
Furthermore, we oppose; new or increased taxes on firearms, as this would further increase the burden on families already experiencing financial distress in this recessed economy. Any public dissemination of a gun owner’s personal information, as this is an invasion of privacy. Requiring background checks and fingerprinting of citizens who already lawfully own a firearm; in order to register them. Decreasing currently legal magazine sizes as this requirement would be unenforceable and would constitute an illegal seizure of property for those who currently own legal magazines.
