First Responder Suicide Prevention

A survey of more than 4,000 first responders found that 6.6 percent had attempted suicide, which is more than 10 times the rate in the general population. First responders run a serious risk of losing their careers in a mental health emergency by using things such as mobile crisis. Between what we see and experience every day when you add things like outside stress, divorce, money problems etc sometimes life can become too much. Where a civilian can call mobile crisis in an emergency, for a lot of first responders around the country that's simply not an option without risking their livelihood. Which will only increase those thoughts and feelings adding more stress. This petition is to get Congress, the president, average Americans and other first responders to understand how big of a problem this is. We need not fear asking for help, we need not fear the stigma associated with this any longer. It's time we stand up and say enough is enough and fight for our mental health. When our communities need us, we are there. When we need help, where do we go? Let's work together and fix this.
