Release approved State funding NOW! & engage in discussion about ICOSA’s Federal funding

The Federal Government recently announced its intention to suspend essential educational funding to the Islamic College of South Australia (ICOSA) at the end of Term 1. Suspending funding is a serious proposal.
Now! The State Government is illegally withholding the funds which were already approved in March and June of 2016, resulting in the Islamic College becoming insolvent before the promised end of 1st Term deadline. This will lead to the unemployment of approximately 60 staff members and the displacement of approximately 500 Australian students.
We petition the State Government to release funding which rightfully and legally belongs to Islamic College of SA so we are not forced into insolvency.
This will ensure we have a fighting chance to address the Federal Governments’ intend to suspend funds by end of Term 1.
We believe we have been unjustly treated and not given a surviving chance
What ICOSA wants
Approved state funding to be released by latest the 10th of March 2017 to give us a chance at survival.
Engagement in a discussion about the maintenance of ICOSA’s Federal funding so that it can continue to provide quality education to the Islamic community of South Australia beyond term 1. The impact of these decisions will severely affect the innocent students Reception – Year 12 and staff who will be left unemployed. Despite this uncertainty enrollments have increased by about 50 in 2017 showing the ongoing support of our community.
This petition appeals to the Federal Education Minister Hon. Simon Birmingham and the State Senator Hon. Susan Close. Release already approved State funding of approximately $625 thousand. Rather than suspending Federal funding, intervention is required from government agencies to engage in a dialogue to ensure an amicable resolution for all parties involved. We the petitioners ask, why should nearly 600 staff and students be penalised? The standard and delivery of education at the College has not faltered and continues to flourish. We request your support in order for us to continue the high quality of service to the Islamic community and broader Australian society.
