I went from an honor student my freshman year to a high school dropout in my third freshman year, because I hated having to go to school before I’d had my morning poop.

I’m signing because studies show our teens need more sleep than present school start times allow. Schools with later start times have better results from their students.

I’ve seen first hand as a high school educator how tired many of our students are at the beginning of the day. I feel strongly that should the AISD decide for a later start time, there would a direct positive impact on student performance in the classroom and on standardized testing. Transportation issues can be solved with some brainstorming. The AISD should be in the business of doing what is best for the students not what is easiest to maintain.

I support the research. High school started early so football players had time for practice after school.. priorities are not illplaced.

Kids now days are so mentally drained over what’s required they stay up worrying! The requirements take so much out of kids. A lot of kids who are actually very intelligent are failing because of the mental stress and they don’t get enough sleep. If these kids are willing to stay up studying, then they need to be given more time to get to school!
