Why this petition matters
There's a software project on github known as "AccelerateHS" (found here: https://github.com/AccelerateHS/accelerate ) which needs funding. It's a fun programming tool to play with, and has a lot of potential to make GPU programming more fun, but the last update was months ago because the maintainer doesn't have the money to work on it full time.
This petition aims to change that by measuring how much money people would be willing to donate. If this petition manages to get enough money he might open a patreon or use github sponsors, the library will take off, gpu programming will be easier, and software as a whole might become slightly better.
In recent years there's been an explosion in how powerful artificial intelligences are, and these AIs can often rely upon GPUs to work. If there are more and better tools for dealing with GPUs and AIs then we could see a massive movement towards using AIs for any task that requires the ability to recognize things.
Computers have never been very good at recognizing sounds, or objects from a camera, or messages conveyed via natural languages, but with AI we can change all of that, and with accelerate we might be able to move AI development over to a more functional programming language. I've actually written a blog post on the many merits of functional programming here: https://noahs-blog.net/?p=377.
With functional programming we may be able to build programs that are not only faster, but also more stable, more secure, more portable, and all around better.
Free/Open Source software projects have typically had a problem with getting enough funding due to bad business models, but maybe if people knew what projects need funding then maybe they'd be able to get more donations.
In the signature please specify how much money (in American dollars) you'd be willing to donate, and start the signature with "monthly" if you'd be willing to donate on a monthly basis, and "once" if you'd be willing to make a one time donation.
At the end I'll download the signatures, add up how much money he'd be getting and then inform him of it via github discussions.
