Suzanne Zlotnick started this petition to Starbucks

No. 6 plastic lids, used for many disposable beverages containers, are made out of polystyrene, the same chemical as styrofoam. Hot beverages can actually leach styrene from the No. 6 lids. Leaching can start at temperatures as low as 100 degrees and elevated leaching begins at 175 degrees - the temperature at which many hot beverages are served. The leaching of styrene from a #6 lid during a single use has been observed to be as high as 0.025%. An average coffee drinker consumes an entire plastic lid's worth of plastic every few years.

Not only are plastic lids incredibly dangerous to humans, but they are harmful to the environment. Every year we throw away enough lids to circle the earth 35 times. These plastics do not break down and stay in landfills for millennia.

Take a stand and demand that Starbucks remove No. 6 plastic lids and replace them with compostable alternatives that do not contain carcinogens.
