Straws only upon request

Save money, save the earth.
Do we really need these? For most people, using a straw is just force of habit. But here's the truth:
In the U.S. alone, we use 500,000,000 straws every day. That's enough straws to wrap around the circumference earth two and a half times. Or if you're a baseball fan, that fills up the entire Yankees' stadium 9 times in a year. Look, these plastics are filtering into landfills and littering our waterways and oceans. (Think of the turtles!)
To keep your lips soft and plump... (do I need to say it?) avoid straws. Over time your lips may wrinkle from puckering while sipping through your beloved straw.
Some straws (usually harder and thicker) will contain BPA (Bisphenol A) which is known to mimic the female hormone estrogen. If you didn't guess already, it contributes to giving men more fatty breast tissue, and increased risk of obesity, diabetes, and cancer to both sexes.
So for the earth's sake, cut down on straw usage, and plastic usage in general. It takes about 450-1,000 years for plastic to naturally break down. So, next time you have something to drink, ask yourself, "Do I really need this straw?"
