Starbucks: Stop Torturing Chickens
This petition made change with 45,402 supporters!
Starbucks puts a lot of effort into building its gourmet menu and spends lots of money on creating an elegant dining atmosphere. Yet, shockingly, Starbucks has failed to phase out even the worst abuses of the animals in its supply chain.
Crammed inside filthy, windowless sheds by the tens of thousands. Bred to grow grotesquely large at an unnaturally fast rate. Violently shackled, electrocuted, and slit at their throats while fully conscious. These abuses are not what you’d expect from an upscale café, but they’re the sad reality for chickens raised for The Starbucks’ supply chain. Join the national campaign against Starbucks to end this cruelty!
Following efforts from The Humane League, several major companies in the foodservice industry have released comprehensive chicken welfare policies to address the myriad forms of cruelty to chickens in their supply chains. Other restaurant chains have engaged in productive dialogue with The Humane League, but Starbucks refuses to even discuss adopting basic animal welfare for the chickens in its supply chain.
Please sign our petition and demand that Starbucks adopt a meaningful animal welfare policy that spares birds from the worst abuses they currently endure in the restaurant’s supply chain. It’s time for Starbucks to release a policy to provide birds with more space and a clean, naturally lit environment, shift away from fast-growing breeds of birds, and eliminate live-shackle slaughter methods.
