Starbucks needs to follow through with its anti-straw initiative

In July 2018, Starbucks announced a plan to stop the use of plastic straws in its stores. However, the public has seen very few results. Starbucks continues to rely on lids that require a plastic straw in order to be functional.

Starbucks is a company with over 28,000 locations worldwide and over 500 customers in each store per day. If only 60% of customers use a straw, that makes a total of 8,400,000 straws per day. Every day, 365 days a year.

Over 1 million marine animals are killed each year due to plastic debris in the ocean. Sea turtles make up a major part of this group and are largely threatened by plastic straws. Plastic straws can get lodged in their nostrils or they can choke on them if they try to eat them.

We need to take action! I am starting a petition for Starbucks to continue its promise of eliminating plastic straws from their stores. The claim will be “Starbucks needs to follow through with its anti-straw initiative”.

You can help too! Just sign this petition and share it with others!

Happy earth day!
