There are over 28,000 Starbucks locations globally. In a past annual reporting by Starbucks we learned that Starbucks likely  uses about 8,070,428 cups per day at their stores (Leo Qin). Obviously, we know not every drink at Starbucks requires straws, but even if we cut that number in half, Starbucks would still use roughly four (4) million straws per day.

Nevertheless, plastic straws are a large problem for the environment. Starbuck's estimated four million straws used every day is only a tiny part of the 500 million straws used in the USA each day (Rubicon). Plastic straws are not biodegradable like paper straws. If they are improperly disposed, they can reach the ocean and be harmful to marine animals and the ocean ecosystem.

Let's stop Starbucks from using plastic straws and switch to paper straws! Paper straws are a much better option than plastic. The good thing about paper straws is that they are biodegradable, meaning more friendly to the environment. They take less time to decompose and they'll break down in 6 months meaning they are safer than plastic straws. (Rubicon)
