Say no to slave labour! Stand against Starbucks Coffee!
This petition had 64 supporters
In 2011 Starbucks signed an agreement ensuring that all of their coffee would be ethically sourced and come from fair trade. Since then it has been discovered that only 83% of Starbucks coffee has come from fair trade. This means that 17% of Starbucks coffee is a result of free trade.
This means that 17% of Starbucks Coffee labour workers are not being appropriately compensated for their long laborious hours in very harsh conditions. On average a Starbucks coffee picker in Ethiopia will earn $0.3 per pound of coffee beans they pick, this is not enough money for anyone to live on.
Starbucks Coffee earns $14.8 billion in global profit per year and yet they can not spare any extra to pay the legal amount of money to support workers and their families. This is disgraceful and needs to be ended immediately.
By signing this petition you are supporting all people that are working on almost no wages or being forced to work as a slave in third world countries. We encourage you to sign this petition to pledge your support for helping stop this very important issue.
