Dear Residents of Lincoln County,
We are students of Star City High School East. Our project is to provide the people in and nearby to Star City School District and Lincoln County with internet and also better service. We are working to get a lifeline service hotspot for low-income residents who do not have wifi available to them. We are also working to get more internet towers on the outskirts of our town so wifi will be made available to all students and residents of the county. Our school is leading the state in computer science with our PLTW and EAST classes, we are also one to one with Chromebooks. This means our students have a device to take home every day for homework but most of our students have no internet access or very slow and sluggish internet at home. Also, our only internet provider is Centurylink which is expensive and not very reliable. We gathered insight and advice from the Mayor of Grady and were told that he worked with the community and made a petition for internet and they eventually had internet made available to them. We spoke to a contact at AT&T and he told us about the lifeline service hotspots would be very likely to be made available and since we are about 80% free and reduced in our school district. We knew most people would qualify. In this day and age internet is a major tool for people to be successful. If we have the numbers however according to a contact we have with AT&T we can hopefully get our towers fixed and more added to our town. We need everyone that we can to fill out this petition please share this with everyone you know. We need your help! If you have any questions our emails are below.
