Shame on Stanford. Shame on the Trustees. To disrupt the athletic careers of so many talented student athletes -- really? Their lives have been devoted to this sport. They should be supported, not torn down. And in the middle of a pandemic ... how could you? With 28 billion dollars in the bank -- I can't think of a cause that is more worthy of support and a time when those funds should be put into action. As an alum Class of '83 and a parent of an incoming Women's Lightweight Rowing cox, I am extremely disappointed to see Stanford abandon this incredible sports program. With one swift move, Stanford has forever altered the lives of these incredible student athletes and coaching staff -- dashing their hopes and dreams from the comfort of your ivory tower. Come on Stanford -- you're better than this. These are peoples lives. And it's the people who have made Stanford what it is today. #savestanfordrowing. #savestanfordsports. #makepeoplenotprofits.

I loved competing with Stanford in my time at Berkeley. Most teams at Cal harbored some animosity towards Stanford but I’ve liked and respected all the Stanford oarsmen and women I’ve encountered. Rowing on the west coast is worse off without them.

Varsity rowing in college was a formative, valuable and impactful experience that was just as foundational to my personal and professional growth as my prestigious education. Save Stanford Rowing!

This varsity sport has been an avenue of excellence not only on the water, but for more opportunities for students who seek to matriculate at Stanford. They've also ranked nationally year after year, so I think that support for this sport is necessary if not key to keeping Stanford spirit alive and well.

As a Trojan, nothing would make me happier than to see these sports discontinued. But you always want to compete against the best, and The Farm has produced some of the best athletes in these sports. Hope this decision is reconsidered and all sports are reinstated.

I was on the team in 1989/90, and the experience was amazing. Varsity status provided the necessary financial strength to elevate all levels of Stanford Rowing.
