Stand With Wisconsin Veterans – Oppose Senate Bill 13

Asbestos kills at least 10,000 Americans every year, and Wisconsin has the 14th highest rate of asbestos deaths in the nation. Tragically, while veterans represent 8% of the nation's population, they comprise an astonishing 30% of all known mesothelioma deaths that have occurred in this country.

We owe our veterans better.

UPDATE: Asbestos lobbyists are prematurely claiming victory on this bill. The Civil Justice Council, a professional association made up of manufacturers and corporations that lobbies to change the laws governing court procedures in order to make them more favorable for big money corporate interests, recently boasted that SB 13 "is expected to pass the Senate when it reconvenes in the fall."

Tell the Wisconsin Senate and those Senators who have stood up for our veterans and other victims that we are not going to let asbestos lobbyists speak for us – nor should they.

Asbestos corporate executives knew from at least the 1940s that asbestos was deadly, but callously covered it up leaving veterans, workers and homeowners to pay the price. Now Wisconsin Senate Bill 13 threatens to tip the scales of justice in favor of irresponsible asbestos corporations by delaying and denying accountability for dying asbestos victims.

I want justice for asbestos cancer victims, not a handout for the industry that killed them. I ask you to oppose Senate Bill 13.
