Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe made history when he became one of the NFL's first and fiercest allies for the freedom to marry. His work on the winning campaign to secure marriage equality in Minnesota—including appearing in interviews and ad campaigns—helped change hearts and minds, and shattered stereotypes.
Unfortunately, while Chris’s actions led to a huge victory for the LGBT community, he was also subjected to extreme anti-LGBT hate speech from a coach who told players that "we should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows."
Despite Chris’s successful NFL career that spanned eight seasons, he was released from the team. The Minnesota Vikings have said they will conduct an investigation into what happened to Chris.
Sign this petition telling Vikings Owner/Chairman Zygi Wilf and General Manager Rick Spielman that you want a full and fair investigation, training for all Vikings personnel on LGBT issues, and their support for players who either are or want to be allies in the future.
As leaders of a storied NFL franchise in a state that recognizes the rights of LGBT people, it is essential that you fully investigate these allegations and take appropriate disciplinary measures, adopt strong anti-discrimination policies, train all Vikings personnel on LGBT issues, and support players who either are or want to be allies in the future.
