Right now, too many moms are facing the unthinkable:
“I have been feeding my children leaves from trees because there is nothing else,” said Agauwol Akec, a mother in South Sudan.
Moms like Agauwol are desperately struggling to feed their children, as food supplies have run out and they have nowhere to turn.
In February 2017, famine was officially declared in parts of South Sudan - the first time anywhere in the world since 2011. 100,000 people face catastrophic hunger and imminent risk of death, and another 1 million people are on the brink of famine. It doesn’t get more extreme than this.
But South Sudan isn’t the only country facing this level of catastrophe. Children in Nigeria, Somalia, and Yemen are at risk of starvation, too. The crisis in all four countries—threatening 20 million people—is projected to worsen over the next few months unless a major international response is mobilized immediately.
We must act now. Sign your name to stand up for children on the brink of famine.
In 2017, no child should die from hunger. Every child deserves a chance at life.
This is a critical moment in our history. Will you stand up for children in desperate need? Add your name now.
