Stand-Up AGAINST Montefiore's Plans for a Massive New Development in Riverdale

This petition had 496 supporters

Despite overwhelming community opposition, Montefiore Hospital is attempting to build a massive 11-story, 95,000 square foot story healthcare facility in the heart of Riverdale. Senator Jeff Klein and Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz launched this online petition to make sure every communty member's voice is heard.

Along with Congressman Eliot Engel and Community Board 8, Senator Klein and Assemblyman Dinowitz are fighting to keep this project out of Riverdale. On Monday, December 9th, Klein and Dinowitz sent a letter to the Department of Health demanding that New York State immediately subject the project to a lengthy review process before allowing construction of the development to proceed.

Scores of residents have come out against Montefiore's proposal and have demanded that changes be made. Despite numerous invitations from the community to come and explain the need for the new facility, Montefiore has shut the community out, and offered only marginal changes to the facility's design and scale. The proposed development would create an enormous 93,000 square-foot medical facility between Riverdale and Oxford Avenues--a densely populated area that cannot possibly accomodate the increased traffic that such a facility is certain to produce.

This project has already received the attention of the NY Daily News and Riverdale Press.

If allowed to move forward, this project will result in increased congestion, limited parking, reduced home values, and a serious degradation in every resident's quality of life.

It's time for ordinary residents to make their voices heard at the grassroots level. Let's send a message to Montefiore that our neighborhood is NOT for sale.
