This year marks the 40th anniversary of the designation of Kananaskis country. In December 2018 logging is scheduled to take place in the Upper Elbow River watershed along Highway 66 and the Elbow River. The proximity of these cuts to the Elbow River threatens headwaters for communities downstream and disrupts critical wildlife habitat. This project will also undermine the importance of tourism and recreation to local economies and communities.
We are asking the government of Alberta to re-evaluate logging in Kananaskis Country and designate the Mustang Hills area of the Upper Elbow as a Public Recreation Area (PRA), to account for the ecological and recreational values of the land.
