Supremacy of Constitutional Democracy in Pakistan

Supremacy of Constitutional Democracy in Pakistan
Pakistan’s constitutional and democratic institutions are facing a serious threat since the Deputy Speaker of National Assembly unconstitutionally rejected the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The no-confidence motion was moved by the opposition Alliance, and the Pakistan National Assembly (lower house of the parliament) was supposed to vote on the no-confidence motion on April 3rd. However instead of voting, the Deputy Speaker rejected the no-confidence motion by endorsing Law Minister’s claim that the motion is a part of a conspiracy by foreign power (United States of America) to change the government. Law minister further added that leaders of opposition parties cooperated with the conspiracy to overthrow the government of Imran Khan, hence declaring more than half of the Parliament as being a traitor.
Minutes after the rejection of no-confidence motion, Prime Minister Imran Khan sent advice to the President to dissolve the National Assembly and call for new elections. The President followed the advice and issued the notification for dissolution of the National Assembly.
This is a clear violation of the constitution of Pakistan and this can have serious consequences for the future of democratic process in the country.
Stand for the Supremacy of Constitution and Democracy in Pakistan:
We want United Nations and all democratic forums in the world to stand for the supremacy of constitutional democracy in Pakistan and urge the State of Pakistan to undo unconstitutional moves by the Deputy Speaker, Prime Minister and President, as well as call a National Assembly session as soon as possible in order for the elected legislature to vote on no-confidence motion and run the country as per constitution of the country.
