Stop the reinstatement of tolls between exits 1 & 6 on the Mass. Turnpike
The Massachusetts government is planning on reinstating tolls on the Mass Pike from exit 1 to 6 on October 15, 2013. We'd like to repeal the plan. Most people who commute locally on the Mass. Pike will soon pay more than $200 a year to over $900 in tolls just so they can drive back-and-forth to work. With the slow economy, it puts even more pressure on struggling families who are already trying to make ends meet.

Stop the reinstatement of tolls between exits 1 & 6 on the Mass. Turnpike on October 15, 2013. In this slow economy, the middle class and struggling families should not have an increased tax while commuting to work, trying to make a living. These tolls, even for commutes under 10 miles can add up to hundreds of dollars per year for a family. Funds they could be using for their daily needs.
We hope you will also be in attendance at the meetings regarding the reinstatement of tolls on Wednesday, September 10 at Lee High School, or at the MassMutual Center in Springfield on Wednesday, September 12. Both events are being held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.. We would like to voice our opinions to you in person.
We are not happy about the toll reinstatements. Here are some examples of why these tolls will be taxing to local Western MA families.
Driving from Chicopee to the Holyoke Mall will cost you roughly $133/yr in new tolls. That's $133 more a full-time worker will have to pay to get to work.
A worker who drives from Westfield to Chicopee will have to pay 90 cents for every round trip. For a full-time employee that's roughly $240/year. That can be a car payment for struggling middle class families.
