Sandra Dudgeon started this petition to Stagecoach West of Scotland/Ayr

At the end of October, Stagecoach announced proposed changes to timetables on various routes within Ayr including the Hayhill No 2 service. A consultation day was set up for the 29th Oct with appeals to be allowed until the 2nd Nov. The consultation was most unsatisfactory as the staff present, were in the main, unable to help and simply offered copies of the new timetables and address to appeal. Due to the lack of notice, insufficient time was made available for the residents of the area to consider the changes and request further involvement before a final decision was reached but despite appeals by local users and councillors, an extension to the appeal was refused. As a result it has now been proposed that this petition be set up which we are asking residents in the area to sign. We realise that many do not use public transport, therefore are not affected, however please can we ask you take the time to read on and understand the reasons behind our very serious concerns regarding the proposed changes which will badly affect the more vulnerable in our area.

1. The new route means Craigie Road/Craigie Avenue/ Fotheringham Road & Lymburn Place will now have an hourly service. There are residents in this area without their own means of transport, who have mobility issues and rely on the bus for attending appointments or simply shopping in the town. The existing half hour service, due to alternate bus being diverted through the university grounds, has already caused difficulty without it moving to hourly.
2. In the area there is a sheltered housing complex with this decision causing great distress among the residents. Some have mobility problems, while some have problems with memory and are easily confused so not only will the new times cause hardship, the bus number change from No2 to No1 will add to their confusion and difficulties. As many of them at present use the service regularily to go to Prestwick, with this service being removed it will now require a bus change in town, adding further problems for those least able to cope.
3. Previously during peak times when the buses tend to be busy, missing one meant simply a short 15 minute wait however 30 minutes, or as in Craigie Road area, 60 minutes as is now proposed, could mean appointments being cancelled and people left stranded.

We would request that Stagecoach rethink these changes taking account of the points raised in this petition. However if they are determined to proceed with these changes we request that at least they consider the option that all journeys revert to travelling up Craigie Road instead of diverting through the university grounds as both it and the college are adequately served by the existing stops at the fire station and Morrison Gardens. With this compromise both areas are served half hourly.
