Recently, the incidents of deer collisions have increased enormously, on roads such as the A513, A460, and others. More needs to be done in Staffordshire to prevent this from happening. The A513 between Milford and Rugeley currently has a speed limit of 60 miles per hour. When a deer or other animal tries to cross the road, stopping the vehicle in time is impossible - especially in the dark.
The amount of dead and injured deer on the A513 alone is astonishing - it's near enough every day now.

Some easily implementable solutions would be:

- Reducing the speed limits from 60mph to 30 or 40mph
- Fencing the forest from the road
- Creating deer crossing bridges
- Floodlighting the area, to enable drivers to see clearly
- Speed cameras to ensure drivers are staying within the guise of the law
- Discouraging and/or issuing fixed penalty notices to individuals who feed the deer at areas such as Shugborough Hall and Birches Valley, as feeding incentivises the deer to cross the roads more frequently

The areas of Stafford, Rugeley, Cannock and Penkridge are so fortunate to have a piece of natural beauty so close to home, but in order for it to be truly beautiful it needs to be a space for everyone to feel safe and welcome.
