Currently Stafford County Schools follows the strictest quarantine policies laid out by the CDC and VDH. The CDC and VDH state a provision that students can return to school after 7 days symptom free and with a negative Covid test OR 10 days symptom free with no test. But I am told the SCPS policy is the full 14 days no exceptions. See the document here:

This issue will be on the agenda for the upcoming school board meeting Tuesday October 12, 2021.  By signing this petition you are letting the School Board know that you are in favor of shorter quarantines. I will submit this petition to the school board prior to the meeting. 

We have had personal experience with this during the last week.  My daughter was exposed on Tuesday 28 September. She has had both shots but was not considered fully vaccinated because she was 3 days shy of the 14 day requirement post 2nd shot. I have made my case with the school nurse to include getting her tested at day 8 and receiving a negative test result. They will not make an exception to the Stafford 14 day requirement. While I cannot find that policy in writing on the SCPS web site I spoke with a school board member this morning to ask about it. She told me there are two board members looking to vote for the change at the next meeting.

For reference our neighboring counties (Prince William, Fauquier and Spotsylvania) all follow the shorter quarantine guidance.

By the time this will take effect my daughter will have served her 14 days, but I want this change to happen for the benefit of all SCPS students. I have seen the negative effect first hand of my daughter not being able to attend classes in person and being socially isolated from her peers.  Our kids have been through so much since March of 2020 - lets get them back to some normalcy as soon as possible.
