North Branford High School Midterm Petition
North Branford High School Midterm Petition
Students have expressed their concern with Midterms and the stress around them. As we all know, there has been an increase in the amount of cases around the state and nation. As our positivity rate sky-rocketed to over 20% in Connecticut, several students have been missing class due to no online-schooling options. This puts these students at a disadvantage as they did not experience the same learning environment as other students. Therefore, having midterms during this time is stressful, unfair, and not wanted by students. You would be hard pressed to find a student who feels well-prepared for a mid year exam at this time, and the support of this petition will reflect that.
With the unpredictability of this year and recent Covid uptick, it is unfair to put such heavy weight on just 120 minutes as there is no way that will fairly evaluate what students have learned through the past 2 years. There are many valid alternatives that can more accurately assess the learning of students at our school.
Surrounding districts have forgone mid-year exams for this year, such as Lyman Hall.
Please consider what the students want, the amount of stress that will be taken off us, and the fairness for all students in these exams. Thank you North Branford!
