Call for a formal response from Stack Exchange Inc. regarding moderator resignations.

This petition had 24 supporters

At the time of this writing sixteen (16) moderators have resigned and twelve (12) more have suspended operations following the abrupt termination of a respected moderator. This has caused a degree of turmoil in the broader Stack Exchange community of users as evidenced by extended discussions on Meta Stack Exchange.

While the community supports Stack Exchange Inc. in the goals to develop a welcoming community, a dialog needs to take place between Stack Exchange Inc. and it’s community of users. This needs to be a technical discussion about the future plans of the Stack Exchange network as well as addressing concerns about the toxicity of the community.

As such, we call for the following:

First, Stack Exchange Inc. needs to respond to the Meta Stack Overflow community as well as the Writers community.

Second, Stack Exchange Inc. needs to clearly articulate it’s plans with regards to the proposed Code of Conduct for the community.

Third, Stack Exchange Inc. needs to develop a means of allowing members of the community to have a say in matters of site moderation and content so that policy is not merely dictated to the community.

As Stack Overflow as founded with the goal of making the internet a better place, Stack Exchange Inc. and it’s community need to work together to ensure that goal is in mind and always met.
