Keep Coach Holt at STCS

A coach’s influence in a child’s life cannot be underestimated. Since the day Coach Lamar Holt has stepped foot on to the St. Theresa Catholic School campus our students have been exposed to elite coaching that they would have only received by being accepted to a select team. He has added new sports, created a proper athletic program, and has added to the school’s popularity throughout Sugar Land and Houston.

He has not only been a great coach, but has done an exceptional job as the Athletic Director. Prior to his arrival, the school did not have a structured physical education program. The middle school basketball team at the time was in a league that required them to travel to Galveston on school nights for games. He has secured a track for the track team to practice on as opposed to running around the school as they did in previous years. Coach Holt is also the one responsible for acquiring the equipment needed for the track and volleyball teams.

The middle school girls’ basketball team has been undefeated for almost three years. Holt has taken mediocre potential, molded it, and developed it into one of the best teams in two different leagues. The younger grades are equally as talented and under Coach Holt’s instruction are on the same path for success.

This is only basketball; there are a number of other students who are ranked nationally in their individual sport. It is not just a coincidence that one small catholic school can have such a large population of elite youth athletes. These students deserve to continue to have proper mentoring. Just like the students who excel academically, they deserve a teacher who will guide them to the next level. Coach Holt has assisted two students in receiving grants for private high schools and is currently walking another eighth grader through the process.  This alone is a huge incentive for the school to encourage the sports department to grow and support it 100%.

We do not want our athletic department to fall from its current level. If we no longer have Coach Holt, we risk losing our athletic department in its entirety.  A few parents have already decided they will no longer allow their children to participate in athletics at the school. Others have made the decision not to volunteer to coach. Proper sport development is unchallenged in a student’s personal and social development. Athletics have brought our school community together and provided a place for students to socialize outside of school.  All the students respect and look up to Coach Holt as a stepping stone in their young lives.

I urge you to sign this petition. It is our hopes that the school will listen to the parents’ wishes and retain and encourage Coach Holt as St. Theresa Catholic School Athletic Director.
