Delay the vote on historic preservation application procedures in St. Petersburg, FL until property owners can be informed of the implications

Robert Griendling started this petition to City Council St. Petersburg, Florida City Council

There is a movement to drastically reduce property owners rights in St. Petersburg, requiring many homeowners to pay extra fees and obtain approval from an unelected board for exterior changes to their homes. Modern updates such as energy efficient windows may be prohibited. It's all part of an effort to make it easier to apply for local historic status in the Old Northeast but the new rules would apply citywide.

Currently, 66% of ALL homeowners must approve an application for a historic designation. Since 2010, some residents and preservationists have been quietly working with the city to reduce that to 50%. BUT at the 11th hour, a motion was made to reduce the threshold to 50% OF RESIDENTS VOTING. This would mean that a tiny majority of residents could decide this issue. And the implications are citywide. The lower threshold would apply to any neighborhood. The City Council is due to vote on this drastically reduced threshold April 16.

Please tell the City Council that the rules should not be changed until residents are fully informed of the implication of any historic designation. YOUR VOICE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
