- We the undersigned parents of St. Mary's School children, stand united in our petition to the School Advisory Board and Administration to change the masking policy at SMS. We request masking to be voluntary, not mandatory, in all circumstances of learning and interactions with others as a part of school related activities whether on or off premises. This would be more in-line with the current Owatonna Public School's policies on masking.
We feel parents have the right to make their own decisions they feel are in the best interest of their children's physical and mental health. As more has been learned about COVID and masking, more has come to light of potential health, cognitive and social concerns of masking children. In the absence of local, state or federal mandates, the decision of whether or not a child wears a mask should belong to the parent or guardian.
